Smurfit Westrock Agrees USD420 Million Deal for CMPC’s Chilean Packaging Business

Smurfit Westrock has agreed to acquire CMPC’s Chilean containerboard and corrugated business for $420 million, strengthening its paper supply and converting operations in Latin America.

The acquisition includes a recycled containerboard mill with a network of fibre collection centres, three corrugated plants and a moulded-tray facility. The Santiago paper machine produces approximately 250,000 tons annually.

Smurfit Westrock said the business would complement its existing Chilean operations and strengthen its regional supply network. It plans to integrate recycled paper into operations in Argentina, Peru and Ecuador, while supplying the acquired corrugated plants with kraftliner from Brazil and North America.

“This firmly establishes Smurfit Westrock as the leading player in Chile and further strengthens our regional footprint,” said Alvaro Henao, chief executive of Smurfit Westrock Latam.

The company said the consideration represents less than six times adjusted EBITDA after expected synergies. It intends to fund the transaction from its own liquid resources.

Completion is expected in the first half of 2027, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
