Italian packaging machinery manufacturer Altopack has expanded its range of flexible packaging formats with a resealable pillow bag designed for products including dry pasta.
The format incorporates a zip closure that allows consumers to close the pack again after opening, supporting products intended to be consumed over several occasions rather than in a single use.
Altopack lists the pillow bag with zip among the packaging formats available from its PQ100 continuous-motion horizontal packaging machine. The system is designed for applications including short pasta, snacks, confectionery, frozen food and other granular or fragile products.
The company’s portfolio also includes open-close pillow packs for long-cut pasta. These formats can be produced using machinery from its AOD range, which combines horizontal flow-pack technology with weighing and sealing systems developed for products such as spaghetti, linguine and tagliatelle.
Resealable packaging gives pasta manufacturers an alternative to conventional pillow bags, while retaining the production and shelf-space advantages associated with flexible packaging. The closure also enables consumers to dispense part of the contents before resealing the remaining product.
Altopack develops and manufactures its automatic packaging machinery in Italy. Its equipment portfolio covers primary and secondary packaging applications for pasta, rice, couscous, flour, sugar, snacks, confectionery and other food products.
