Voith has started up a new packaging paper production line for Sun Paper at its Yanzhou site in China’s Shandong province, with an annual design capacity of 700,000 tonnes.
The PM47 machine has a wire width of 8.66 metres and reached an operating speed of 1,400 metres per minute ten days after start-up, according to Voith.
The project progressed from the start of civil construction to the production of its first reel in 11 months and eight days. The machine reached 1,300 metres per minute during its first week of operation before increasing to 1,400 metres per minute.
Voith supplied the project as a full-line installation. Its scope included an old corrugated container stock-preparation system, a virgin-fibre system, wet-end process equipment, the paper machine from headbox to reel, and automation and digitalisation systems.
The OCC stock-preparation line has a design capacity of 2,200 tonnes per day. Voith said the installation also incorporates permanent-magnet motor technology across the stock-preparation process.
Digital systems supplied for the line include process and quality controls, condition monitoring and the company’s MillOne production-data platform.
“PM 47 is another important milestone in the long-standing partnership between Voith and Sun Paper,” said Carlos Lin, senior vice-president for order execution and operations at Voith Paper Asia.
The companies have worked together on paper-production projects for more than two decades.
The scale of PM47 represents a significant addition to packaging-paper production capacity and comes as paper producers continue to invest in large, highly automated lines capable of processing recovered fibre at high throughput.
