Butterfly Equity to Acquire Sabert in Global Food Packaging Deal

Butterfly Equity has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Sabert Holding Corp, adding one of the larger international foodservice packaging manufacturers to the private equity firm’s food-sector portfolio.

Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026.

Founded in 1983 and headquartered in Sayreville, New Jersey, Sabert manufactures food packaging across plastic, paper and moulded fibre. The business operates 13 manufacturing facilities globally, including nine in the US, and employs around 3,000 people.

Its customers span foodservice distribution, supermarkets and grocery, restaurants and quick-service restaurants, as well as fresh-protein and food processors. Sabert said its business is supported by more than 400 product patents alongside dedicated research, tooling and innovation capabilities.

Sabert founder and executive chairman Albert Salama is expected to remain a significant minority investor following completion of the transaction.

“Butterfly’s deep expertise and understanding of our customers and end markets make them an ideal partner for our next chapter,” Salama said.

The acquisition will further increase Butterfly’s exposure to the packaging sector. Its existing portfolio includes ePac Flexible Packaging, the digitally printed flexible packaging producer acquired by the investment firm earlier this year.

Butterfly specialises in investments across the food and beverage value chain and said packaging forms part of its strategy of investing in businesses supporting changing food consumption and distribution patterns.
