Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) has expanded its kp Infinity® portfolio with the launch of a new range of recyclable trays for packed fresh fruit, extending the mono-material packaging platform beyond food-to-go applications into the fresh produce sector.
The new kp Infinity® fruit tray range has been developed to meet growing demand from retailers and produce suppliers for packaging that combines product protection with improved recyclability and reduced environmental impact. Designed for whole fruit such as apples and pears, the trays are manufactured from expanded polypropylene (EPP), offering a lightweight yet durable solution intended to help minimise product damage and food waste throughout the supply chain.
According to the company, the trays are fully recyclable and feature a traditional artisan-style appearance aimed at enhancing shelf presentation. Their stackable design is intended to improve transport, storage and handling efficiency, while clear recycling instructions printed on the packaging are designed to encourage correct consumer disposal.
Klöckner Pentaplast also says the trays require less water and energy to manufacture and have a lower carbon footprint than alternative packaging materials, supporting customers’ wider sustainability objectives.
The trays can be paired with kp FlexiStretch® overwrap or kp FlexiFlow® films to create a complete packaging system for fresh produce. The company says the combined solution is designed to provide product protection and presentation while helping maintain quality from packing line to retail shelf.
“Following the success of kp Infinity® in food-to-go applications, we identified a growing need for recyclable packaging solutions in the fresh produce sector. The new fruit tray range brings together the durability, presentation and recyclability customers are looking for in a format specifically designed for whole fruit such as apples and pears,” said Austin Schwarz, Sales Director UK&I at kp Food Packaging.
He added: “Combined with kp FlexiStretch® overwrap or our kp FlexiFlow® films, customers can source a complete packaging solution from one supplier, benefiting from streamlined procurement, technical expertise and consistent packaging performance across the supply chain.”
The latest addition further expands Klöckner Pentaplast’s fresh produce packaging portfolio as the company continues to develop packaging solutions aimed at improving both operational efficiency and sustainability across the food supply chain.
