Clifton Packaging Acquired by Italian Packaging Specialist Carton Pack

Italian food packaging specialist Carton Pack has acquired UK-based flexible packaging firm Clifton Packaging Group, marking a significant expansion of Carton Pack’s footprint in the flexible packaging sector.

Carton Pack, headquartered in Puglia, Italy, and backed by London-based private equity firm A&M Capital Europe (AMCE), specializes in multi-material packaging solutions for Europe’s food markets, with a strong presence in the fruit and vegetable sector. The acquisition adds Clifton’s expertise in flexible packaging, particularly in the wet protein and snacks categories, to Carton Pack’s diversified portfolio.

Leadership and Integration

Clifton Packaging, founded in 1981 and headquartered in Leicester, will continue to operate under its established brand and leadership. Shane D’Souza, previously the company’s Chief Operating Officer, has stepped into the role of Chief Executive. The firm will also benefit from Carton Pack’s extensive resources, including warehousing and distribution capabilities across Europe.

Reflecting on the acquisition, Shane D’Souza stated: “We will continue to operate under our established brand while benefiting from Carton Pack’s extensive resources and industry expertise, including access to warehousing and distribution in Europe. It’s an exciting time for the Group, and we look forward to what the future holds for us.”

Shahid Sheikh, Clifton’s outgoing Managing Director, expressed pride in the company’s legacy and optimism for its future: “As I hand over the reins, I take pride in leaving behind a legacy of success and innovation, with a bright future ahead for the company under its new stewardship.”

Strategic Implications

Carton Pack CEO Gianni Leone described the acquisition as a critical step in the company’s global growth strategy, particularly in sustainable packaging solutions: “We are delighted to welcome Clifton Packaging into the Carton Pack Group. The acquisition represents a vital step in our global strategy to deliver both plastic and paper sustainable packaging solutions on a larger scale to the food industry. This partnership not only expands our product range but also strengthens our capacity to serve clients across Europe and beyond, further reinforcing our commitment to quality, service, and innovation.”

Expanding Carton Pack’s Portfolio

With the addition of Clifton Packaging, Carton Pack further diversifies its offerings in rigid and flexible plastics, corrugated and solid carton products, and molded pulp. The company now operates seven production facilities and 15 warehouses across Italy, Spain, and the UK, employing a workforce of 700.

This acquisition solidifies Carton Pack’s position as a leading provider of both plastic and paper sustainable packaging solutions, catering to the evolving needs of the food industry. The integration of Clifton Packaging aligns with the company’s commitment to delivering high-quality, innovative, and eco-conscious packaging on a global scale.
