Fresh-Lock Closures Creates New Leadership Role

Fresh-Lock® Closures, a leading name in reclosable flexible packaging technology, has taken a bold step in its sustainability journey with the appointment of Todd Meussling as the brand’s first-ever Director of Business Development and Sustainability. Based in Appleton, Wisconsin, this strategic move underscores the company’s commitment to eco-friendly innovations and shaping a circular future for the packaging industry.

In his new role, Meussling is tasked with spearheading sustainability initiatives and fostering collaboration with industry suppliers and partners. His focus will be on accelerating the development of next-generation solutions, including home-compostable closures, post-consumer recycled (PCR) content integration, and closures designed for paper-based pouches. These efforts align with the growing demand for sustainable packaging options and reflect Fresh-Lock’s proactive response to global environmental challenges.

Lisa Petersmark, Vice President of Presto Specialty, the maker of Fresh-Lock closures, emphasized the significance of this new role. “Helping brands reduce their carbon footprint through innovative closure solutions is a core focus for our team,” Petersmark stated. “Todd has been instrumental in advancing our mission. This promotion enables us to commercialize next-generation solutions that serve both our customers and the planet.”

Fresh-Lock’s sustainability efforts are exemplified by the ongoing expansion of the Fresh-Lock® 8000 Series, a portfolio designed to promote circularity and minimize waste. This series has become a benchmark for innovation, offering tailored solutions for diverse packaging needs. Notably, the company’s collaborative efforts recently earned it a 2024 WorldStar Award for developing a more sustainable, child-resistant package.

Meussling’s leadership comes at a time when the packaging industry is under increasing pressure to adapt to sustainability mandates and consumer expectations. With his guidance, Fresh-Lock aims to lead by example, investing in technologies that not only meet today’s demands but also anticipate the challenges of tomorrow. “Transformative advancements depend on a unified vision,” said Petersmark. “Todd’s promotion reflects our investment in that vision, enabling us to push the boundaries of what’s possible in sustainable packaging.”
