Mondi, a global leader in sustainable packaging and paper production, has finalized the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging’s Western Europe operations. This strategic move significantly enhances Mondi’s product portfolio, production capacity, and innovation capabilities, reinforcing its position as a key supplier of high-performance, sustainable packaging solutions.
The acquisition adds over 1 billion square metres of additional packaging capacity, improving supply security, reliability, and product flexibility for customers. Existing Mondi clients will benefit from an expanded product range and increased production agility, while former Schumacher Packaging customers will gain access to Mondi’s comprehensive service offerings, industry-leading sustainability credentials, and robust supply chain.
Strengthening Corrugated Packaging in Western Europe
“This acquisition significantly strengthens our corrugated packaging business, extending our footprint in Western Europe and offering strong vertical integration opportunities. We are delighted to welcome our new Schumacher Packaging colleagues to Mondi. Together, we will expand our eCommerce and FMCG offering, particularly in Western Europe, presenting exciting opportunities to introduce the Group’s unique range of products to a wider array of customers as they increasingly transition towards more sustainable packaging solutions,” said Andrew King, Mondi Group Chief Executive Officer.
Among the acquired assets are two state-of-the-art mega box plants in Ebersdorf and Greven, Germany. These facilities deliver exceptional asset performance and quality, further bolstering Mondi’s manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, the inclusion of solid board solutions into the portfolio enhances Mondi’s ability to serve eCommerce and FMCG customers with protective, logistics-optimized, and environmentally responsible packaging.
Enhancing Innovation and Sustainability
“This acquisition is all about delivering more for our customers – greater capacity, enhanced supply security, and a broader range of sustainable packaging solutions to help them succeed,” stated Markus Gärtner, CEO Corrugated Packaging at Mondi Group. “Bringing together the expertise of our new colleagues from Schumacher Packaging with Mondi’s capabilities strengthens our offering even further, enabling us to drive greater innovation and value for the customers we serve.”
The combined strengths of Mondi and Schumacher Packaging will provide customers with expanded options to reduce waste, lower carbon emissions, and improve operational efficiency. By leveraging its fully integrated packaging solutions, Mondi aims to help businesses meet their sustainability goals while optimizing their packaging strategies for the future.
