Saica Group Expands Polish Operations with Acquisition of Schumacher Packaging Plants

Saica Group has officially strengthened its position in the Central and Eastern European packaging market by acquiring the Polish assets of Germany’s Schumacher Packaging. The deal, finalized on October 31, 2024, includes two advanced corrugated board facilities in Bydgoszcz and Wroclaw, two paper mills in Grudziadz and Myszków, and three service centers. This acquisition not only consolidates Saica’s presence in Poland, where it now employs over 1,500 people, but it also aligns with Saica’s growth strategy to expand production capacities and enhance its infrastructure across Eastern Europe.

With this move, Saica gains a substantial increase in production capabilities, adding 420,000 tonnes of recycled paper capacity and an additional 530 million square meters of corrugated cardboard output. This scale boost positions Saica to support the Polish market with sustainable packaging solutions, emphasizing circular economy principles. The expanded operations will also allow the group to better serve regional clients with localized solutions, further reinforcing Saica’s commitment to customer proximity and integrated service offerings.

The acquisition follows Saica’s earlier market entries in Poland, including its joint venture with Thimm Group in 2011 and its acquisition of Fox Recykling in 2022, highlighting the company’s long-term investment strategy in the region. By integrating Schumacher Packaging’s Polish team and expertise, Saica aims to leverage valuable local knowledge and bolster its workforce’s capabilities to enhance its operations and support the company’s overarching Saica 2025 strategic growth plan.

This transaction represents a pivotal step for Saica, enabling it to offer an expanded range of sustainable packaging options and strengthen its role as a leader in the European corrugated cardboard sector.
