New Assembly Hall Strengthens Syntegon’s Food Packaging Capacity In Germany

Syntegon has officially opened a new assembly hall at its Remshalden site in southern Germany, marking a strategic investment aimed at supporting future growth in its Food Horizontal business and responding to rising market demand for integrated food packaging solutions.

The new facility was inaugurated on 26 November during a ceremony attended by Syntegon’s senior management, including chief executive Torsten Türling and Bruno Oberle, executive vice president Food Horizontal, alongside representatives from project partners FP die Generalplaner and APS Bau. The project forms part of a broader modernisation of the Remshalden site and underlines Syntegon’s ambition to strengthen its position as a technology leader and long-term lifecycle partner for food manufacturers.

The assembly hall adds 1,200 square metres of contiguous production space, increasing assembly capacity at the site by around 40%. According to the company, it is the largest single assembly area at Remshalden and is specifically designed to support complete food packaging line projects, including secondary and end-of-line systems. The expansion also creates space for approximately 25 additional employees, easing capacity constraints that had emerged as demand accelerated.

“This project is a strong symbol of our momentum over recent years,” said Türling at the opening ceremony. “It shows that our strategy meets customer needs and is delivering. With this new assembly hall, we are creating the foundation to scale technological innovation, expand production for our food customers, and offer employees a modern, future-ready work environment.”

Syntegon’s Food Horizontal division focuses on holistic line solutions, combining primary, secondary and end-of-line technologies into integrated systems intended to improve efficiency, reliability and throughput for food producers. The company says this approach has been a key driver of growth, particularly as customers seek suppliers capable of delivering complete packaging lines rather than individual machines.

At Remshalden, near Stuttgart, this trend has translated into a sharp increase in business activity. Syntegon reports that sales at the site have nearly doubled since 2022, placing increasing pressure on existing infrastructure and prompting the decision to invest in additional assembly capacity. The new hall is intended to remove these bottlenecks and provide greater flexibility for complex, end-to-end projects.

“This investment reflects our confidence in the market, in our strategy, and most importantly, in our people,” Oberle said. The company invested nearly €4m in the construction of the new facility.

Beyond capacity expansion, the project also incorporates elements aligned with Syntegon’s sustainability objectives. A photovoltaic system has been installed across the entire roof of the new building, contributing to on-site renewable energy generation and supporting the group’s broader environmental ambitions.

Construction of the assembly hall began at the end of October 2024 and was completed in just over a year, finishing six weeks ahead of schedule. Syntegon attributed the accelerated timeline to close cooperation between all parties involved.

“The early completion is the result of excellent collaboration, smooth planning, and a consistently solution-focused approach from all partners,” said Sebastian Kühne, site manager at Remshalden. Project manager Ferdinand Stummer highlighted the strength of the partnerships formed during the build, adding: “The positive experience with our partners was compelling. We have also entrusted APS Bau with our upcoming office renovation as well.”

For Syntegon, the Remshalden expansion is part of a broader effort to future-proof its manufacturing footprint as food producers invest in modern, scalable packaging lines. By increasing assembly space and upgrading infrastructure, the company aims to shorten lead times, manage higher order volumes and support continued growth in its food business, while also improving working conditions for its workforce.

The new hall is now fully operational and is expected to play a central role in supporting Syntegon’s food packaging activities in the coming years, as demand for integrated, high-performance line solutions continues to rise across global food markets.
