Tosca has launched a new circular pallet developed with Cabka, positioning it as a reusable plastic alternative to one-way transport packaging for FMCG and retail supply chains facing tighter regulatory and operational demands.
The Euro-sized Tosca Circular Pallet, CP 1208, has been designed for automated environments and for compatibility with the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation. According to the companies, the pallet is intended to help producers, growers and retailers improve transport efficiency, worker safety and traceability while fitting into existing Euro-pallet handling systems without requiring major infrastructure changes.
Laurent Le Mercier, EMEA President at Tosca, said: “With increasing automation, tighter regulations, and rising sustainability expectations across FMCG and retailers’ supply chains, the demands placed on pallets are evolving.” He added that the new pallet offers “a standardised, automation-ready, PPWR-compliant alternative that improves efficiency, enhances worker safety, and supports a truly circular supply chain without disrupting existing operations.”
Built to Euro-standard 1200 x 800 mm dimensions, the CP 1208 is designed to integrate with established pallet handling equipment. Tosca said rounded skid edges help reduce damage during forklift handling by limiting impact points compared with conventional square skid designs. The company is positioning the pallet as a way for operators to modernise handling and storage processes without costly retrofits or process redesign.
The pallet has also been developed to work with Tosca’s reusable plastic crates. Integrated deck grooves are designed to lock crates in place without strapping, supporting double-stacked transport and more stable load handling. RFID integration is intended to strengthen traceability, asset management and supply chain visibility.
Cabka framed the new pallet as an example of circular materials being applied at industrial scale. Alex Masharov, CEO of Cabka, said: “This pallet demonstrates what circular logistics should look like in practice.” He added: “By transforming recycled plastic into high-performance transport assets, we enable supply chains that are both more efficient and more sustainable. Together with Tosca, we are showing how circular materials can become the new standard for FMCG, retail and wider logistics.”
Tosca said the pallet is made from 100% recycled plastic and has been engineered for repair, reuse and end-of-life recycling. Its plastic construction is non-porous, splinter-free and easy to clean, with integrated drainage holes designed to reduce water build-up and moisture retention. The company said these characteristics make it suitable for food, produce and retail environments where hygiene, product protection and consistent performance are important, including in automated storage and retrieval systems.
The companies are also highlighting handling and ergonomic benefits. Tosca said the pallet includes integrated top-deck handles, anti-slip features and enhanced stability. It is also described as more than 4 kg lighter than traditional wooden pallets, a feature the company says can help reduce strain during manual handling.
“In high-throughput environments, efficiency and worker safety go hand in hand,” said Le Mercier. “By improving stability, grip and ease of handling, the Tosca CP 1208 helps reduce manual strain and the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, creating safer working conditions while supporting operational performance.”
The launch comes as logistics operators and FMCG suppliers across Europe prepare for stricter expectations around reuse, recyclability and traceability under PPWR and related EPR requirements. Tosca argues that the CP 1208 offers a more circular alternative to wooden pallets, which typically require ISPM-15 heat treatment or fumigation and are less aligned with reuse-based pooling systems.
“At Tosca, we don’t simply supply a pallet,” Le Mercier said. “We partner with customers to manage assets and deliver supply chain performance, meet regulatory requirements, and turn circularity into a lasting competitive advantage.”
The new pallet extends Tosca’s broader pooling and asset management model, with the company presenting it as a transport platform that combines regulatory readiness with operational standardisation for high-volume supply chains.
