Stora Enso Expands Premium Board Range with Uncoated Ensovelvet

Stora Enso has introduced a new uncoated solid bleached sulfate (SBS) board, Ensovelvet, expanding its premium packaging portfolio. The new material was unveiled at Luxe Pack Monaco (29 September–1 October 2025), where it drew attention for its velvet-like smoothness and natural tactile quality on both sides.

Developed in response to rising demand for renewable and natural packaging materials, Ensovelvet combines a bright, uncoated surface with high stiffness and reliable folding performance. According to Stora Enso, “This bright, premium SBS board provides an enhanced sensory experience while ensuring excellent printability. It is especially well-suited for cosmetics packaging, perfumes, and other high-end applications where touch and appearance are equally important.”

The board complements the company’s flagship Ensocoat line, offering a coherent SBS range for luxury packaging producers seeking both coated and uncoated options. Its uncoated surface requires fewer materials during production, contributing to a lower carbon footprint and aligning with luxury brands’ sustainability goals. Both boards are fully recyclable, reinforcing Stora Enso’s commitment to circular packaging.

“Luxury packaging is about more than protection. It’s about creating an impression,” said Tomas Larsson, Head of Product Line FBB, SBS, Liner, and Book Paper at Stora Enso. “Ensovelvet gives brand owners a material with a distinctive, natural surface that helps their products stand out in a crowded marketplace. By adding it alongside Ensocoat, we now offer a complete SBS range that meets today’s design trends and tomorrow’s performance demands.”

Ensovelvet is available in grammages ranging from 240 to 320 g/m².
