CANPACK and Canovation have formalised a collaboration agreement aimed at accelerating the commercialisation of CanReseal, a resealable aluminium beverage can technology designed to combine consumer convenience with compatibility across existing can manufacturing and filling infrastructure.
The agreement brings together Canovation’s proprietary CanReseal closure system and CANPACK’s global manufacturing capabilities as the companies seek to complete the remaining development work required before pilot-scale production can begin.
According to the companies, the technology has already reached an advanced stage of development. The next phase will focus on preparing CanReseal for deployment in pilot manufacturing environments, with the objective of validating the system ahead of a broader commercial launch.
Canovation will continue to work alongside Stolle Machinery Company, a supplier of can-making machinery and tooling, which will support the technical implementation of the technology and its integration into existing production facilities.
CanReseal has been developed as a resealable closure system for aluminium beverage cans. The companies said the technology is designed to operate on existing can production and beverage filling lines, potentially allowing beverage brands to adopt the system without requiring significant changes to current manufacturing infrastructure.
The technology is also intended to support sustainability goals by maintaining compatibility with established aluminium recycling streams while providing consumers with the ability to reseal cans after opening.
“We are delighted to formalize our partnership with CANPACK as we enter the final stages of market readiness and validation,” said Jeff Grajewski, Chief Operating Officer of Canovation. “This collaboration allows us to work closely with a global leader in manufacturing as we prepare for pilot production and commercialization.”
Fabio Hees, Group Commercial Officer at CANPACK, said the partnership aligns with the company’s focus on packaging innovation and sustainability.
“This collaboration reflects our ongoing commitment to advancing innovative and sustainable packaging technologies,” Hees said. “We look forward to working with Canovation to prepare CanReseal for commercialization.”
The companies said current development activities are expected to be completed in the near term, after which pilot production programmes will be launched. Canovation is also seeking strategic and financial partners to support the next stage of commercial deployment.
