Innovia Films, a leader in BOPP film manufacturing for labels, graphics, packaging, and tobacco, has launched a new specialty film production line at its Schkopau site near Leipzig, Germany. The state-of-the-art 8.8-meter-wide line, with an annual capacity of 35,000 tons, produces 15-50 micron films and is strategically positioned to serve key customers across Europe.
Cutting-Edge LISIM Technology
The new line utilizes the Linear Motor Simultaneous Stretching Machine (LISIM), developed by Brückner Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG. “LISIM technology ensures balanced orientation, meaning film properties remain uniform in both machine and transverse directions, which is critical for labels and packaging applications,” explains Günther Birkner, President of Innovia. “Additionally, it enhances optical properties, offers functional skin layers, and improves material and energy efficiency to reduce the carbon footprint.”
Commitment to Sustainable Packaging
This investment aligns with Innovia’s ‘Better Future’ material science strategy, which prioritizes sustainable solutions for the label industry. Thinner films contribute to greater material efficiency and lower carbon emissions, supporting global brands in their transition to eco-friendly packaging.
Enhanced Production Capabilities
“LISIM technology enables faster, more flexible production of high-quality simultaneously stretched films,” says Giuseppe Ronzoni, General Manager at Innovia Films Schkopau. “The resulting films boast superior quality while reducing energy consumption compared to conventional BOPP extrusion techniques, further lowering the final product’s environmental impact.”
Expanding the Product Portfolio
The new line will produce an expanded range of films, including pressure-sensitive facestock films for labels and flexible packaging films designed for mono-material retort constructions. “This innovation leads to thinner labels for consumer products such as shampoo bottles, helping reduce overall packaging waste and aligning with PPWR objectives,” notes Lucija Kralj, Business Unit Director Labels at Innovia.
By integrating cutting-edge technology with sustainable practices, Innovia Films continues to advance packaging solutions that meet industry regulations and evolving market demands.
