Material-Neutral and Market-Ready: Mondi Showcases Tailored Packaging at Fachpack

Global packaging and paper manufacturer Mondi will spotlight its extensive, material-neutral portfolio at Fachpack 2025 in Nuremberg (23–25 September), underlining its strategy of delivering tailored, regulation-ready packaging solutions across paper, corrugated and flexible plastic substrates.

Positioning itself as a one-stop partner for eCommerce, FMCG and industrial clients, Mondi will present innovations spanning high-barrier flexible packaging, recyclable fibre-based alternatives, and structurally robust corrugated formats—underscoring its capabilities in delivering packaging that is both fit-for-purpose and sustainability-aligned.

“Mondi combines deep material expertise with a material-neutral approach—selecting the right material for each application,” the company stated, highlighting its readiness to meet both environmental goals and evolving regulatory demands such as the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

At the centre of its Fachpack presence will be the newly introduced Vantage and re/cycle product ranges, which include paper-based solutions that replace plastics without compromising on performance. These include the Ad/Vantage TrayWrap, a paper-based alternative to shrink film that cuts CO₂ emissions by over 75%, and the re/cycle Protective Mailer, which substitutes plastic padding with recyclable kraft-paper cushioning.

Among the high-barrier highlights, Mondi will showcase its re/cycle FunctionalBarrier Paper Ultimate, designed to replace multilayer plastic or aluminium structures in applications such as dried foods, muesli bars, and tea. According to the company, the solution combines recyclability with ultra-high resistance to oxygen, water vapour and grease.

“Innovation at Mondi starts with collaboration,” said Thomas Ott, CEO Flexible Packaging at Mondi. “In our newly opened FlexStudios, customers can actively participate in the innovation process… allowing us to turn ideas into viable packaging solutions quickly and collaboratively.”

The FlexStudios, equipped with pilot lines for real-time testing, are part of a broader push to co-develop practical, scalable innovations with stakeholders across the packaging value chain, including machinery suppliers and recyclers.

Mondi’s startup engagement programme, MatchMaker, will also feature at Fachpack. The initiative connects early-stage companies with Mondi’s business units to develop and scale new packaging technologies. MatchMaker will be profiled during the FuturePack 2025 panel on 22 September and at an “Innovation in Practice” networking event the following day.

Another strategic milestone underpinning Mondi’s Fachpack showcase is the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging’s operations in Western Europe. “It allows us to offer customers an even broader range of sustainable packaging solutions, backed by enhanced supply security and local service,” said Markus Gärtner, CEO Corrugated Packaging at Mondi.

Products on display at the Mondi booth (Hall 4, Booth 204) will also include the Ad/Vantage Smooth White WS, a high-strength calendered white kraft paper with wet-strength properties, and TwinBox, a shelf-ready corrugated format developed to improve logistics and enhance on-shelf presentation.

With its presence at Fachpack 2025, Mondi reasserts its ambition to serve as a partner of choice for customers seeking regulatory compliance, packaging efficiency, and sustainability through a comprehensive material-agnostic portfolio.
