Sappi To Showcase Future-Proof Paper Packaging Portfolio At Interpack 2026

At Interpack 2026 in Düsseldorf, Sappi will present a broad portfolio of paper-based packaging materials designed to address evolving regulatory requirements, performance expectations, and sustainability targets in the packaging industry.

Under the theme “Future-Proof Packaging Papers,” the company will highlight a range of flexible packaging solutions, including Guard Pro OHS, Guard Pro OMH, Guard Twist, and Guard Duo barrier papers. These materials are designed to support applications across food, tea and confectionery packaging, particularly for products such as chocolate that require advanced barrier performance.

Structured Portfolio For Flexible Packaging

At the core of Sappi’s Interpack showcase is its flexible packaging portfolio, which the company has organised into three segments aimed at simplifying material selection for converters and brand owners.

The SEAL range focuses on heat-sealable papers intended for primary and secondary packaging in both food and non-food applications. According to Sappi, the papers offer heat sealability, mechanical strength and printability. Variants include Seal Silk, Seal Silk G, Seal Pure Silk, Seal Natural, and Seal Light in both Natural and Gloss versions.

The GUARD range provides barrier protection against water vapour, grease and mineral oils. Products such as Guard M, Guard MS, Guard Duo, and Guard Twist are designed for packaging formats that require moderate barrier performance, including applications for baking powder, pasta, rice, cereals, sweets, chocolate, tea and ice-cream cone sleeves.

For applications requiring higher protection levels, the GUARD PRO range delivers advanced barrier functionality. Products such as Guard Pro OHS, Guard Pro OHG, AvantGuard, and the newly introduced Guard Pro OMH provide protection against oxygen, water vapour, grease, and mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH and MOAH). These papers can be supplied with or without heat-sealability and are targeted at products such as chocolate, powdered coffee additives, seasonings, soluble drinks and cheese.

At Interpack, Sappi will emphasise Guard Pro OHS, available in both Gloss and Natural uncoated variants, alongside the newly presented Guard Pro OMH high-barrier paper.

Packaging Materials Across The Value Chain

Beyond flexible packaging, the company will also present materials spanning multiple packaging formats.

Sappi’s Fusion liner and Algro paperboard ranges will be displayed as part of its packaging material portfolio designed for applications ranging from transport packaging to premium retail packaging. These materials aim to provide structural performance, converting reliability and print quality while supporting brand presentation at shelf level.

The exhibition stand will also feature the Parade Label wet-glue label paper range used in beverage and food labelling applications. According to the company, these papers are engineered to support high-speed labelling operations and consistent print performance, including in returnable bottle systems where reliable wash-off properties are required.

Technical Support And Regulatory Expertise

Sappi positions its packaging offering as extending beyond material supply, providing technical support throughout the packaging development process.

The company works with converters and brand owners on areas including machine runnability, barrier validation, print optimisation and compliance with food-contact regulations. According to Sappi, this collaborative approach helps reduce implementation risk when transitioning from plastic structures to paper-based packaging.

“Our flexible packaging portfolio represents the future of sustainable packaging,” said Flavio Froehli, Vice President Marketing & Sales at Sappi Europe.

“As Europe’s packaging market faces tighter recyclability standards, extended producer responsibility schemes and rising performance requirements, success depends on solutions that run efficiently on existing filling lines, protect products effectively and meet recovery criteria, without eroding margins. With proven, recyclable solutions that do not compromise on performance and keep total cost of ownership in balance, we provide customers with the exact paper solution for their specific demands and application needs, while supporting their sustainability goals.”

Demonstrating Applications At Interpack

Sappi will present its materials and applications at Hall 8a, Booth B35 at Interpack 2026.

The stand will feature packaging examples across confectionery, tea, bakery products, dairy, beverages and non-food sectors. The display concept guides visitors from paper reels and sheets to finished packaging applications, illustrating how the materials are used in real-world formats.

A central feature of the stand is the Sappi Café, where visitors can see examples of paper-based packaging in practical use. The company will present a packaging concept combining Algro Design paperboard with high-barrier paper to create what it describes as a 100% paper-based, mono-material, recyclable solution for food packaging applications.

Across the exhibition, Sappi aims to demonstrate how paper-based packaging can deliver barrier protection, print quality and product presentation while meeting recyclability requirements. The company states that its papers are manufactured from renewable resources and are recyclable in the paper waste stream as mono-material structures, with certification available through FSC Mix Credit (FSC™-C015022) or 100% PEFC (PEFC/07-32-76) depending on availability.
