Metsä Board has introduced a new folding boxboard grade and delivery concept aimed at improving responsiveness and supply chain reliability for brand owners and converters operating in fast-moving consumer goods sectors across Europe.
The Finnish paperboard producer announced the launch of MetsäBoard Pro FBB Go, a folding boxboard developed for demanding food and pharmaceutical packaging applications. The new material is accompanied by a service concept designed to provide faster and more predictable access to custom-cut sheet formats.
Designed For Fast-Moving Packaging Environments
According to the company, the product has been developed to address operational challenges faced by converters and brand owners, including fluctuating demand, strict performance requirements, and the need for uninterrupted production.
MetsäBoard Pro FBB Go is described as a multipurpose folding boxboard intended to deliver consistent quality while supporting compliance requirements in regulated packaging segments such as food and pharmaceuticals. The grade is OBA-free and incorporates hard sizing, which the company says helps ensure dependable performance in frozen food applications.
“Our customers operate in environments where demand can shift quickly. With MetsäBoard Pro FBB Go and our new service concept, we are making production smoother, planning more predictable and supply chains more resilient, creating a real competitive advantage for our customers in Europe,” said Maarten Florizoone, VP Sales Europe at Metsä Board.
The company also notes that the material can support packaging lightweighting initiatives and may contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of packaging, partly due to the high share of fossil-free energy used in its production.
Production And Supply Chain Setup
The new folding boxboard grade is manufactured at Metsä Board’s Husum mill in Sweden, one of the company’s major production facilities. After production, the board is sheeted at the company’s Sheeting & Distribution Hub in the Netherlands, enabling the delivery of custom-cut sheet formats tailored to converter requirements.
This production and logistics setup forms the basis of the company’s new service concept aimed at reducing delivery lead times.
Fast-Track Delivery Services
To complement the new product launch, Metsä Board has introduced two logistics services designed to provide faster and more predictable access to folding boxboard sheets.
The FastTrack Service offers delivery of folding boxboard sheets within less than three weeks across Europe. For more urgent needs, the ExpressTrack Service reduces delivery times further, providing sheet deliveries in less than ten days.
According to the company, the services are intended to help converters and brand owners maintain production agility while avoiding excessive inventory levels in an environment where supply chains can be volatile.
By combining a new folding boxboard grade with accelerated delivery options, Metsä Board aims to strengthen its offering to European packaging customers operating in high-performance and time-sensitive packaging segments.
