Sabert Expands in Europe with Acquisition of UK Packaging Firm Colpac

Sabert Corp., the New Jersey-based food packaging producer, has strengthened its European operations through the acquisition of Colpac Ltd., a United Kingdom manufacturer of fiber-based packaging solutions.

The deal, carried out via Sabert Corp. Europe in Belgium, extends the company’s reach in the UK, Irish and continental markets, while broadening its sustainable packaging portfolio. Sabert described Colpac—founded in 1937—as having “built a strong reputation for innovation, quality and customer service across its extensive range of food packaging solutions.”

Alex Noake, managing director of Sabert’s European operations, said, “As someone who has worked with Colpac both as a customer and more recently as a competitor, I’ve always held deep respect for the business.”

Colpac owner Olivia Goldman added: “I look forward to seeing the newly combined Sabert and Colpac team build on the foundations [former CEO Neil Goldman] so carefully constructed, taking the creativity, dedication to customer service and passion for sustainable food packaging to even greater heights.”

Colpac highlights its use of the UK government’s Recyclability Assessment Methodology to design packaging for recyclability, underscoring its sustainability credentials.

In a related announcement, Sabert has appointed Ricardo De Genova as senior vice president of innovation, reporting to CEO Paul McCann. De Genova, who most recently held a similar role at Graphic Packaging International, will lead several departments to drive technology development and expand the company’s sustainability initiatives.

“Ricardo’s track record in identifying emerging trends and developing breakthrough products aligns perfectly with Sabert’s vision to be our customers’ trusted sustainable food packaging solutions provider,” McCann said.

De Genova, who has also worked at Solenis, Ashland, Cargill and Dow Chemical, said: “Sabert’s rich history of innovation and long-standing commitment to sustainability are just some of the reasons I’m excited to partner with the team to create smart, safe and inspiring packaging solutions for tomorrow’s world.”
