In a strategic push toward circularity in consumer packaging, Mondi has partnered with French pet food manufacturer Saga Nutrition to launch recyclable mono-material bags for dry pet food products. The new solution, which replaces a non-recyclable multi-material alternative, reflects both companies’ commitment to sustainability and packaging innovation.
The collaboration has resulted in the introduction of re/cycle FlexiBag, part of Mondi’s sustainable product portfolio, which was launched to the French market in October 2024. The packaging is designed to meet CEFLEX recycling guidelines as well as Mondi’s internal Path to Circularity Scorecard criteria. It offers high-barrier protection against moisture, grease, and odours — crucial for preserving product freshness in the pet food segment.
“As consumer demand for sustainable solutions grows, we are excited to work with Saga Nutrition to deliver packaging that truly supports a circular economy when it comes to pet food,” said Olivier Werbrouck, Regional Sales Consumer Flexibles France at Mondi.
The mono-material structure not only improves recyclability but also provides practical benefits for end-users. The packaging features secure sealing for easier storage, handling and transportation, with durability designed to withstand the rigours of logistics and retail environments.
“This collaboration with Mondi is a key milestone in our sustainability journey,” commented Jérôme de Solliers, CEO of Saga Nutrition. “By transitioning to recyclable mono-material packaging, we’re contributing to a circular economy while maintaining the high quality our customers trust.”
Saga Nutrition’s move underscores a broader industry trend: aligning functional packaging design with environmental objectives. The partnership with Mondi adds to the growing list of packaging innovations targeting the pet food sector, where freshness, safety and brand differentiation are critical.
