PulPac Licensee HZ Green Pulp Enters Full-Scale Dry Moulded Fiber Production in Malaysia

Malaysia’s HZ Green Pulp has begun full-scale commercial production of Dry Moulded Fiber coffee lids, marking the first deployment of PulPac’s proprietary technology in Asia. The move represents a significant milestone for the fibre-based packaging sector as manufacturers seek scalable alternatives to single-use plastics.

Already established in wet-moulded fibre, HZ Green Pulp commissioned its first PulPac Modula line earlier this year and has now entered steady-state production. The company is initially supplying coffee lids for local and multinational customers while preparing to extend its Dry Moulded Fiber (DMF) portfolio to other food-service applications.

“Our mission is to provide packaging solutions that are both responsible and cost-efficient,” said Dr Donald Yap, Chief Executive Officer of HZ Green Pulp. “Our wet-moulding operations continue to serve customers well, but Dry Moulded Fiber allows us to introduce a new generation of products that respond to evolving market demands while reducing environmental impact. We’re confident in the technology’s capability and its fit with our customers’ requirements.”

PulPac’s DMF process—developed, patented and licensed by the Swedish technology company—enables high-speed forming of rigid packaging using cellulose fibres with minimal water and substantially lower energy input than traditional wet moulding. The result is a cost-competitive, resource-efficient material designed to replace single-use plastics in a wide range of packaging formats.

According to PulPac, the shift from installation to commercial deliveries by licensees such as HZ Green Pulp signals a key stage in the technology’s global industrialisation. “Licensees moving from installation to commercial deliveries is a defining milestone,” said Sanna Fager, Chief Commercial Officer at PulPac. “Our licensing model provides a direct path to market, protected IP, standardised tooling and materials, and a partner network that has already solved the hard problems. It embeds world-leading know-how to shorten validation and de-risk scale-up—a proven route to commercial production, faster to shelves with experienced support from day one and beyond launch.”

The partnership between PulPac and HZ Green Pulp demonstrates how local manufacturers can adopt globally standardised technology while responding to regional market needs. For Southeast Asia’s packaging sector—where plastic bans and sustainability commitments are gathering pace—the development provides a template for localised, fibre-based production that can meet multinational brands’ requirements for both performance and environmental compliance.

PulPac positions its DMF technology as a viable industrial solution for high-volume items such as lids, trays, and cutlery, offering production speeds comparable to plastic thermoforming but with dramatically lower resource use. HZ Green Pulp’s facility in Malaysia is expected to serve as a hub for the region, supplying customers in the Asia-Pacific market and supporting PulPac’s broader ambition to expand its licensing network globally.
