Sinclair, a global leader in fruit labeling technology, has partnered with Zespri, the world’s largest kiwifruit marketer, to launch a groundbreaking compostable fruit sticker. This innovation represents a significant leap in sustainable produce packaging, combining environmental responsibility with high-performance durability.
Key Features of the Compostable Sticker:
Certified Compostable: The Sinclair T55 fruit sticker is certified for both home and industrial composting by TÜV AUSTRIA, ABA, and DIN CERTCO. These certifications guarantee that the sticker fully biodegrades without leaving harmful residues, meeting strict environmental standards.
Consumer Convenience & Reduced Packaging: Designed for ease of disposal, the sticker can be composted in-home bins along with organic waste like fruit peels, reducing packaging waste and simplifying consumer waste management.
Durability with High Performance: Despite its compostable nature, the sticker maintains Sinclair’s high performance standards for automated, high-speed application, ensuring it adheres securely to produce throughout the supply chain. It provides all necessary product details, including origin, variety, PLU, and barcode, while performing on par with conventional plastic stickers.
Colin Woodward, CEO of Sinclair, expressed his excitement about introducing the highest-performing compostable label, highlighting that it aligns with the company’s mission to reduce plastic waste and support the produce industry’s shift toward sustainable solutions.
Jason Te Brake, CEO of Zespri, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the company’s long-standing focus on sustainability and the assurance their labels provide to consumers regarding product authenticity. Zespri plans to transition all of its fruit labeling to this compostable sticker within the next year, further reinforcing their sustainability commitments.
The launch of this product is a major step toward reducing plastic waste in the global fresh produce sector. With globally recognized certifications, the compostable sticker is set to become a standard in environmentally conscious produce labeling.
