Syntegon has expanded its SVX vertical form, fill and seal (VFFS) platform with a new corner seal capability, extending the range of premium bag formats that can be produced on a single machine. The development, to be showcased at interpack 2026, introduces corner sealed block-bottom, Full Corner and Doypack styles, positioning the SVX system to address increasing demand for flexible, high-end packaging formats.
The Stuttgart-based company is targeting applications in confectionery, snacks and bakery, where shelf appeal and pack stability are critical. Corner seal formats, while visually distinctive, are widely regarded as technically demanding due to their sensitivity to alignment and process variation. Syntegon’s latest configuration focuses on maintaining process consistency while reducing operator intervention.
The company states that the SVX system can achieve speeds of up to 120 bags per minute in corner seal applications, a performance level it positions as a benchmark within this segment. To reach these speeds, Syntegon has introduced an automatic axial adjustment system that continuously controls the film reel position. This additional control loop enables the machine to compensate for minor deviations during operation, maintaining consistent seal placement.
Complementing this, advanced web tracking technology monitors the position of the film with sealed corners and automatically corrects alignment, including after reel changes. According to the company, this removes the need for manual intervention during production, improving uptime and overall equipment effectiveness.
Operational stability during changeovers has also been a focal point of the development. Corner seal applications are particularly sensitive during format adjustments, where precise alignment is required. The SVX Agile integrates guided operator assistance to support format changes, reducing setup time and improving repeatability of machine settings.
Accessibility has been redesigned to support faster and more intuitive handling. Forming and sealing units can be accessed from both the rear and sides without opening doors, allowing operators to directly monitor the film path and sealing process. This configuration is intended to simplify troubleshooting and enhance process transparency on the production floor.
Sustainability considerations are also embedded in the new capability. The system is designed to handle mono-material films, which are typically more challenging to process in corner seal applications. By improving process stability and reproducibility, Syntegon aims to reduce material waste during setup and operation, an increasingly important factor as manufacturers respond to cost pressures and regulatory requirements.
The SVX platform has been developed in collaboration with customers, with a focus on addressing constraints observed in real production environments. “Adding advanced bag styles such as corner seal, the packaging machine often becomes the bottleneck of the entire line,” said Martin Boutkan, Product Manager VFFS Technology at Syntegon. “Every improvement at this machine immediately pays off in higher overall performance. With SVX, we combine speed, consistency and ease of use in a way that truly supports our customers’ productivity and future growth of their business.”
The new corner seal functionality will be presented at interpack 2026, where Syntegon will demonstrate the system’s ability to combine high-speed operation with format flexibility and compatibility with sustainable materials.
