TOPPAN Expands Circular Packaging Push At Interpack With Mono-Material Barrier Portfolio

TOPPAN will use interpack 2026 to present a broader global packaging strategy built around recyclable mono-material structures, combining its barrier technology platform with newly expanded manufacturing and film capabilities across Europe and Asia.

The company said it will exhibit jointly with TOPPAN Packaging Czech (TCZ), Toppan Speciality Films (TSF) and Italy-based Irplast, which joined the group in 2025, as it seeks to strengthen its position in sustainable flexible packaging through localized production and expanded supply chain reach.

The Düsseldorf event will serve as a platform for TOPPAN’s “Digital & Sustainable Transformation” strategy, under which the group is accelerating local-for-local packaging production while targeting circular economy opportunities, particularly in Europe’s increasingly regulation-driven packaging market.

Central to the showcase is TOPPAN’s GL BARRIER transparent film technology, now offered in mono-material structures designed to match the barrier performance of conventional multi-material laminates while improving recyclability. TOPPAN said the latest versions also add resistance to high-temperature retort sterilization, extending suitability for long-shelf-life food applications while maintaining recycle-ready design. These materials will be supplied to European customers through TCZ’s Czech production base, where local manufacturing began in late 2024.

TSF will complement this with a portfolio focused on mono-material packaging conversion, including retortable cast polypropylene (CPP), biaxially oriented polyethylene (BOPE), ultra-high barrier and high-seal-strength films. The company positions these materials as alternatives for brand owners seeking to move away from harder-to-recycle multi-material flexible structures without sacrificing processing speed or packaging performance.

Irplast, meanwhile, will present its LOOPP and NOPP films, which are ISCC PLUS certified and incorporate post-consumer waste and bio-circular feedstocks via mass balance systems. According to the company, these films are intended to replace fossil-based materials while retaining technical performance standards for food-contact and flexible packaging applications.

Together, the portfolio reflects TOPPAN’s effort to move beyond standalone material innovation and instead position itself as an integrated global supplier of recycle-ready packaging structures—an increasingly important proposition as converters and brand owners respond to tightening European sustainability legislation and circularity targets.
