WITT Acquires INFICON’s Contura Packaging Leak Detection Technology

WITT Gasetechnik will acquire the Contura non-destructive packaging leak testing business from INFICON, expanding its portfolio of package integrity inspection technologies and strengthening its position in the packaging quality assurance market.

The acquisition, effective from 1 July 2026, includes the Contura product range as well as the associated patents. The companies said the agreement is designed to ensure continuity for existing users while supporting the ongoing development of the technology.

The transaction comes as INFICON undertakes a strategic realignment and exits the packaging inspection sector. The company selected WITT as its successor for the Contura business, citing WITT’s longstanding expertise in packaging and food industry applications.

“For many years, the Contura product range has been synonymous with precise and reliable leak testing. It was important to us to hand this technology over to a partner who can offer customers long-term continuity and continue to develop the product with technical expertise,” said Dr Jorge Oevermann, Product Manager for Leak Detection Tools at INFICON.

WITT, a family-owned company headquartered in Witten, Germany, has specialised in modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), gas analysis and leak testing systems for decades. Following the acquisition, the company will assume responsibility for product development, sales, service and future technology enhancements for the Contura systems.

The technology will be integrated into WITT’s LEAK MASTER® portfolio under the name LEAK MASTER® CONTURA.

According to the companies, the system uses a patented pressure differential method to identify package leaks without requiring test gases such as carbon dioxide. The technology is designed to detect both micro-leaks and larger leaks in a non-destructive manner across a range of packaging formats, including pouches and capsules.

For existing Contura users, WITT said product availability, spare parts supply and service support will continue through its global service and partner network.

“With LEAK MASTER® CONTURA, we are expanding our range to include a technically advanced and well-established method that perfectly complements our existing leak testing solutions,” said Martin Bender, Managing Director at WITT. “This benefits both existing Contura customers and our current customers, to whom we will be able to offer an even broader range of high-performance testing technologies for consistent quality assurance in future.”

The acquisition reflects continuing investment in packaging inspection technologies as manufacturers seek to improve package integrity, reduce product waste and support quality assurance requirements across food and consumer goods supply chains.
