Saica Group Announces $110 Million Investment in New U.S. Corrugated Plant

Saica Group, a leading European producer of recycled paper for corrugated packaging, has announced plans to invest more than $110 million in its second U.S. corrugated plant, located in Anderson, Indiana. The new facility will further bolster Saica’s presence in the U.S. market and contribute to the company’s long-term growth strategy in North America.

The project, which received final approval from Saica’s Board of Directors in early March, will break ground in May 2025 with construction expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2026. Once operational, the plant will create more than 100 new jobs in the region, adding to the company’s growing workforce in Indiana.

State-of-the-Art Facility with Future Growth in Mind

Designed to accommodate Saica’s ambitious expansion plans, the new plant will cover nearly 32,500 square meters (350,000 square feet) and will be capable of producing over 1.2 million MSF (110 million square meters) of corrugated packaging annually. The facility will feature manufacturing, converting, and production areas, as well as a warehouse and office space.

To further optimize operations, the site will be connected to a railroad line, reducing transportation costs and improving logistics. The Anderson location will also serve as a backup plant to Saica Pack Hamilton, providing additional production capacity to meet growing demand.

A Commitment to Stability and Innovation

Susana Alejandro, President and CEO of Saica Group, expressed confidence in the company’s U.S. strategy, emphasizing that the new investment underscores Saica’s long-term commitment to the North American market. “Saica is committed to stability and long-term growth in the U.S. This investment is proof that we are advancing our plans in the American continent, and we are confident that our expertise in recycled lightweight papers and corrugated packaging will set us apart in a competitive market,” Alejandro said.

Community Support and Economic Impact

The announcement has been warmly received by local officials in Anderson. Mayor Thomas Broderick, Jr. expressed excitement about the new facility, highlighting the positive impact on the community and the diversification of manufacturing opportunities in the area. “This investment will significantly contribute to our efforts in attracting advanced manufacturing jobs to Anderson, and we are grateful for Saica’s commitment to our city,” Broderick said.

Ann Lathrop, Chief Strategy Officer of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), also celebrated the investment, calling it a testament to Indiana’s pro-business climate. “Saica’s new facility will bring significant economic benefits to Anderson and the surrounding region, creating a wealth of skilled manufacturing jobs and supporting local infrastructure,” Lathrop stated.

Tax Incentives and Local Benefits

In support of the project, the IEDC has offered Saica up to $2 million in incentive-based tax credits, as well as additional funding for workforce training and infrastructure improvements. These incentives are contingent on the company meeting specific job creation and investment goals.

This new $110 million investment is part of Saica’s broader growth strategy in the U.S. The company had previously announced plans to invest around $800 million in the U.S. over the coming years, a move that will further strengthen its presence in North America and create additional employment opportunities.
