Danone Canada has announced a $6.5 million investment to advance sustainable packaging production at its Boucherville facility in Québec. The funding will support the manufacture of new individual yoghurt containers made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), with a target of incorporating 30% recycled content using rPET.
The move aligns with Danone’s broader commitment to reducing the environmental footprint of its packaging and accelerating the transition to circular materials.
The project has secured public support, including a $2.2 million loan from Investissement Québec and a direct grant of $288,000 from RECYC-QUÉBEC. The investment will enable the Boucherville plant to strengthen its technical capabilities while supporting the province’s objectives for sustainable development and materials recovery.
By integrating rPET into its packaging operations, Danone Canada aims to address rising regulatory and consumer pressure for environmentally responsible packaging formats. The upgraded containers are expected to reduce the use of virgin plastics and enhance recyclability throughout the supply chain.
This initiative marks another step in the company’s long-term sustainability roadmap and reflects the food industry’s broader shift toward resource-efficient materials and responsible production processes.
