Elopak and Rørosmeieriet Debut Natural White Board in Milestone Coop Partnership

Norwegian organic dairy producer Rørosmeieriet has taken another decisive step in sustainable packaging by becoming the first to adopt Elopak’s new Pure-Pak® Natural White Board cartons. The cartons, which launched in June for Coop’s flagship Änglamark brand, deliver a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of up to 14%, according to Elopak.

The move strengthens Rørosmeieriet’s reputation as a packaging innovator in the Nordic dairy sector. Kristin Bendixvold, Commercial Leader at Rørosmeieriet, said the decision aligned perfectly with the Änglamark brand’s eco-conscious positioning. “When Elopak presented the Natural White Board cartons to us in January 2025, we immediately saw the alignment with the eco-conscious values of the Änglamark brand,” she said. “We integrated the new board into our existing filling lines with ease. This is another Elopak innovation that lets us pass on more sustainability benefits to our customers and their consumers.”

The new Pure-Pak® cartons are designed to lower carbon footprints by eliminating clay coatings and reducing polymer usage, while benefiting from energy-efficient production processes.

Kristiane Melingen, Senior Project Engineer at Elopak, praised the dairy’s bold move. “True innovation doesn’t always shout – it often whispers. Our latest cartons may look similar to their predecessors, but they carry a significantly lighter carbon footprint,” she said. “We deeply value packaging pioneers like Rørosmeieriet who are bold enough to test new solutions. Progress doesn’t happen in isolation – it takes customers and suppliers who dare to leap forward with us.”

The launch continues a partnership between Elopak and Rørosmeieriet spanning more than 40 years. The two companies previously collaborated on the rollout of Elopak’s Natural Brown Board in 2017.

Coop’s Product Manager for own brands, Merete Rørvik, noted that the new packaging was a natural fit for Änglamark, which was launched two decades ago to support environmentally conscious consumer choices. “The new pack fits with our sustainability priorities and is ideal for the Änglamark brand, which the Coop founded 20 years ago to help the consumer connect with and choose better environmental options,” she said.

Änglamark fresh skimmed organic milk in the Natural White Board cartons is now available in Coop stores across Norway, with additional products set to follow later this year. The launch forms part of Elopak’s broader Repackaging Tomorrow strategy, which aims to cut emissions across its operations while supporting partners in enhancing their sustainability credentials.
