Mondi has expanded its paper packaging portfolio with the launch of Ad/Vantage Smooth Brown Semi Extensible, a kraft paper developed to serve as a base material for coated and heat-seal applications in both industrial and consumer packaging.
The company said the new grade combines high strength, extensibility and puncture resistance with a calendered smooth surface that enhances coating adhesion and print quality. Positioned between sack kraft and machine-finished paper, it is designed to balance mechanical performance with surface properties for applications where both durability and branding are critical.
Mondi noted that the material was the result of a three-year development programme undertaken by its kraft paper team. It is particularly suited for form-fill-seal (FFS) systems used in dry food, spare parts, toys and building materials. The company stressed that the substrate can run efficiently on existing converting and filling lines, allowing converters to adopt it without major equipment changes.
On sustainability, Mondi stated that the paper is produced from responsibly sourced fresh fibres and is available with PEFC or optional FSC® chain of custody certification. It is recyclable in existing European paper recycling streams, verified under CEPI’s 4Evergreen recyclability protocol.
The firm added that surface smoothness was a decisive feature, ensuring uniform coating performance and aligning the material with Mondi’s broader barrier paper portfolio. The launch forms part of the company’s strategy to expand the use of functional, recyclable paper solutions in packaging categories traditionally reliant on plastic films or multi-material laminates.
