ProAmpac Secures TÜV Austria Certification for Compostable ButterFresh Parchment

Cincinnati-based packaging group ProAmpac has announced that its ButterFresh Parchment has been awarded the OK compost HOME certificate by TÜV Austria, marking a further step in its sustainability roadmap.

The parchment is designed as a wax-free, PFAS non-intent butter wrap that combines compostability with grease resistance and strong dead-fold properties, helping preserve butter, margarine and other oil-based products by reducing air exposure.

Ray Recchia, global innovation manager for sustainable paper packaging at ProAmpac, said the recognition demonstrates the company’s progress in uniting functionality with environmental performance. “Earning the OK compost HOME certificate by TÜV AUSTRIA underscores our commitment to delivering packaging solutions that combine performance, process efficiency, and environmental responsibility. ButterFresh Parchment demonstrates how we can deliver PFAS non-intent fiber-based technologies that meet the growing demand for home-compostable packaging,” he noted.

ProAmpac stated that the new development highlights its ongoing innovation in the dairy packaging segment, while aligning with wider demand for fiber-based solutions that fit within the circular economy.
