adapa Brings Carbon Transparency To Packaging Pricing

adapa Group is introducing a new Carbon Calculator that provides customers with verified carbon footprint data directly within packaging quotations, a move aimed at improving transparency and supporting sustainability-related purchasing decisions.

The Austria-based flexible packaging supplier said the system combines commercial costing data with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodologies, enabling carbon footprint calculations that take into account materials, production processes, transport and energy consumption. Developed in partnership with Benchmark Consulting, the tool is being integrated into adapa’s commercial quoting processes across the group.

According to the company, the Carbon Calculator is aligned with ISO 14067 standards for product carbon footprint calculations and has been independently verified. adapa said it will be the first packaging group to implement such a system directly within its quotation workflows.

The initiative comes as packaging buyers face increasing pressure to provide verified environmental data for ESG reporting and sustainability claims, while also preparing for evolving regulatory requirements linked to packaging and climate reporting.

“This solution provides our customers with trusted, comparable CO₂e data directly within the quotation process. It allows us to move sustainability discussions from assumptions to measurable facts and helps customers make better-informed packaging decisions,” said Stefano Manfredi, Chief Sales Officer at adapa Group.

Benchmark Consulting said the project demonstrates how carbon footprint information can be embedded into routine commercial decision-making rather than treated as a separate sustainability exercise.

“Our partnership with adapa demonstrates how carbon transparency can become part of everyday commercial decision-making. By integrating verified CO₂e modelling directly into pricing workflows, adapa is setting a new benchmark for the packaging industry globally,” said Liam Barbary, Company Director at Benchmark Consulting.

The Carbon Calculator is currently being rolled out across the adapa Group and is intended to support customers with packaging-related carbon reporting, environmental claims and future compliance requirements.

adapa Group supplies flexible packaging solutions to customers in the food, tobacco, home and personal care, and healthcare sectors. The company operates manufacturing and converting facilities across Europe, covering processes including extrusion, printing and packaging conversion.
